The project is monumental due to its large scale; therefore, it generates different spaces for the different activities. The scale and the design influence the students to appreciate the academic social life, an environment for learning and for growth. The master plan has been designed for the whole campus and phase 1 has been built in 2001. The project program consists in three principal areas: • Teaching: Consisting of classrooms, workshops, library and academic offices. • Students services: Consisting of a cafeteria, executive dining rooms, congress rooms, • auditoriums and administrative offices. • Sports: Including the football stadium, basketball courts, indoor swimming pool, open fields, a gymnasium, aerobics, bathrooms and fitting rooms. The sport area and its facilities are located in the northeast side which happens to be the largest area and where the slope is the least to have the football soccer field. Its location also permits the academic buildings to be as far as possible from the noise pollution coming from the main street, taking advantage of the roof tops to build courts for sports. Parking lots have been built around this zone using the roofs as sport areas. The central part of the project consists of a sidewalk strip, it crosses the campus from north to south, locating some of the service areas within the strip. At one extreme of the strip, one can find the deans office, administrative offices, the auditorium and the school theater. This strip has been influenced by Mexico Citys Chapultepec Avenue, with its beautiful trees, street benches, its fountains and its open space creates the nucleus of student life. The west side of the site becomes narrow; this zone is for the academic area due to be the calmest area, between glens and green areas. The classrooms are distributed in five buildings; each one has five levels and a central patio. Inspired by the old colonial cloisters, it also makes an intimate space for reunion between students and professors. In phase 1, the first three buildings have been built. The scheme of the buildings is to allow classrooms or offices to enjoy the beautiful views of the valleys. It also adapts in a humble manner to its surroundings, having less impact on its natural terrain. The volumes are connected by ramps that lead to laboratories, classrooms, offices and end at the library. The particular building design searches for a contemporary Mexican architecture, where luxury would be in the quality of the spaces and not in the use of the materials or high-tech solutions. Our interest in the search for solutions allows the maximum use of the natural ventilation and natural light to reach highest level of comfort with the minimum use of energy. The selection of the materials, the structural solution and equipment of the project were chosen to have low maintenance buildings, as well as energy conservation, which is a big interest for the institute and it represents their philosophy.
