In the northern part of Mexico City, near the access routes, we can find the Technical Center of IBM, on the streets Santa Cruz, La Moneda and the avenue San Joaquín, in Legaria. To integrate the project with its surroundings, the housing unit was surrounded by a large fence. With the same intentions of respect, this and other constructions were painted grey and only the door frames and windows have bright colors. The unit is established in a triangular lot and is made up by two buildings jointed one with the other and combined with open spaces of various forms. The different necessities of each construction motivated a play on with volumes of different heights where openings where distributed strategically to achieve an abstract design. The openings are part of the frame which relates the work spaces with the garden areas which kept the original woodland. The visitors entrance leads to the first building which has on the ground floor a customers information area and various administrative facilities while the workshops are on both levels. The second building and most important, has the storage area; in this case a concrete structure of over 5 inches high with a prefabricated cover was chosen, this facilitates the process of storage. Incorporated to this, there is a series of services such as control through T.V., service elevators, walkways with ramps, fire equipment, electric wiring, water pipes, air conditioning, alarms and closed circuit of television among others; all these services have the purpose of facilitating and optimizing all services at this technical center. The main interest of Legorreta Architects while designing this project was to achieve an establishment of high efficiency with all the advantages that a company of this complexity requires. In the same way, they worried about the adequacy and function of the constructions related to the wellbeing of the workers, searching for optimized conditions of work and an attractive and interesting environment
