Each project has its own characteristics and possibilities, but Club Med Huatulco, basically meant a great challenge: a virgin land, with marvelous beaches, a site apparently antagonistic to the problem and a delicate architectonic program. The Club Med philosophy has a great human intensity, but can be misinterpreted and often seen in superficial aspects. After many visits to the site, meditating about the problem, discussing and analyzing solutions, we decided to propose not a club Med nor a Hotel, but a town; not an artificial town nor an artificial club, but a place where the visitor could feel that it is his, and feel his room as his own house, and that he could also have, as in his town, a personal identification a freedom of action, the wish to live and enjoy the place. In one word the wish to be naturally happy. This was easy to state, but hard to solve. The topography has been the regulating element to the architectonic solution, leading to the creation of remote corners, neighborhoods and recreation areas that identify the visitor with him and at the same time invite him to participate in the community. The architecture adapts to the topography, climate and vegetation, using the conventional construction systems of the country and the zone; the use of color, light, materials and textures seek the image of the authentic Mexico: Romantic, Mysterious, Human and Contemporary. The possibilities to live in nature, to rest, walk and enjoy had been sought in all architecture aspects, from the different neighborhoods, with its plazas and streets, up to the village center in its character of main social activity place. The program is complemented with meeting centers, spreading along the unit as a bridge, restaurants, tennis courts an above all the mountain, the sea and ... Mexico.
