Designed for a talented Mexican actor, this house represented very specific challenges. It was Ricardo Legorreta ?s first project outside his country and by request of the Montalbán, the house had to represent Mexico in the highest level of sophistication. It could not be ostentatious and it had to have the maximum privacy which public figures needs. The site is located at the top of one of North Hollywood Hills overlooking the spectacular view of Los Angeles. For the neighbors as well as for the city, the house represents a sculpture, a silent series of volumes and walls that belong to the earth and dialogue with the sky. The program called for a few rooms but ample. The reception area was designed to be able to accommodate a large number of guests as well as intimate dinners without losing its character. Music, television and swimming space were also important to the owners. Mexican stone floor is carried throughout the house and handmade carpets are the flooring for the bedrooms and closets. Walls were finished with rough plaster in an earthly color and in specific areas of the house few accents of color were used. Special attention was given to natural light and views towards the city. In summary, the house tries to represent the presence of a successful Mexican actor in the United States.
