Monterrey House is located at Sierra Madre Oriental, a mountain range in northeastern Mexico, where beauty, vastness and richness of its landscape are the main characteristics. From the property one can enjoy the most breathtaking views of Monterrey City. Our main goal during the design process was to have a house that belonged to the site and the climate. Views were carefully studied, as well as the relationship between the land and the house that were detached from each other in order to respond to the landscape and become part of it. The Project consists of two zones located throughout the site, the main house and the pool area. They are both fully surrounded by a special atmosphere, since the site is inserted in the middle of a forest. The main house was designed in two volumes, each one with two levels, connected by a main gallery, where the entry of the house is located. The volume on the right side, looking to the south, includes the public areas –living room, dining room, bar, kitchen, entrance hall and a central patio, which leads to a terrace featuring a full spectacular view of the city and forest. The wine cellar and the shooting range are located on the basement floor as well as the staff area. The volume placed on the opposite side of the main gallery concentrates the private areas. The master suite and a family room are on the first level. At an intermediate level, a second family room creates an open space that extends towards a garden located at the back part of the house. This volume is rotated in order to provide the proper orientation, view and ventilation required by the private areas. At this point, a module of stairs leads to three bedrooms on the basement floor and an exit to a pathway that is integrated to the landscape and goes down to the pool area. The main objective was to respect and take advantage of the extraordinary location, provoking ideal living spaces.
