El Arrayán House is located in the Bajío Area, one of the most important urban areas in Mexico. The site is surrounded by an exclusive neighborhood that displays a beautiful golf course and lake which can be fully appreciated from the top of the hill where the house was built. Our main goal during the early design stages placed the house in an area where the user could recognize the project’s facades easily with the use of vertical and horizontal shapes which are essential elements of our architecture. Moreover, we studied the climate and the site’s assets carefully in order to respond to the landscape and then become part of it, fulfilling a natural need to use the beautiful views provided by the physical context. The house was designed in two volumes, each one with two levels and fully surrounded by the garden. The main access plaza is an area formed by high walls that delimit the space. One of them features a fountain that invites the user to walk through a more introspective and exciting space where the main entrance is found. Then, the user is welcomed by the main hall showcasing an inner garden and gallery. The former displays a fountain and the later serves as the project’s main core since it is used as the link that connects the private areas with the public rooms. Most part of the residences’ program is located in this floor level and if the user goes round the inner garden he will discover either a route to the library, dining room, the main living room and the pool areas or a second corridor that leads to the houses’ south wing which highlights a secondary family room, the master bedroom and stairs that lead to the upper floor level. The public areas are located in the houses’ north wing and are connected by the gallery that surrounds the inner patio. They become part of a train of rooms which are highlighted by the library and a terrace that links the office room and the dining room with the kitchen area. The later features a link to the upper services floor area and to the basement level. At the end of the gallery there is a large living room and a terrace that form the west façade. In the exterior, there is another large terrace that links these areas with the pool whose location acknowledges the landscape’s view. On the opposite side of the project the user will find the private rooms that feature the master bedroom with a large bathroom and spacious dressing rooms. Then, both the gym and the other bedrooms can be found on the upper level after using the stairs that are located just by the secondary family room. On the basement level there is a parking area for collector’s vehicles. It also has mechanical and storage rooms.
